How can I improve my connectivity? I play online games and now all of a sudden I get dc'ed..my comp is new and I added more ram and a new video card...it worked fine for about a month and now all of a sudden I lag out of any game I play...please help I would like to be able to play my MMO's

    (ps I dont use wireless)
Yea I tried other servers and different games just to make sure it wasnt the game I was play...sn how do I do what you said?
Ok ill try to the rebooting my router and all that...I hope that works because verizons support usually sucks...anyways thanks for the responses and people keep giving me ideas please ty
damn I forgot to add this...God for your 1st part no my latency is fine I just lose connection to the server after playing for about 5 mins...the games are 2 completely different MMOs one being counter strike and the other being Gate to Heavens...everything worked fine and now all of a sudden boom I get dced from the server but dont lose connection to internet aim or anything else
Spy/adware and virus I sweep for those every day...I reformatted just in case that was the case also..with the one game ill be running along then i cant do anything and an error comes up server disconnected and in cs ill be playing and have a 4 ping and then all of a sudden I get the warning connection problem in the top corner message...also i swapped ram but they were made by the same company wondering if maybe that was the case and nothing happend...i mean i went to 2g ram...maybe i can try a smaller one just to check it out again

talk to your ISP, its probably their fault.

also check your pings to the servers you play on

Get into your router setup program and set your Client Lease Time to something higher. I've set mine to 10000 and it works fine.

I'm assuming it's not really a connectivity issue as it is a latency issue (higher ping times), correct?

Have you tried rebooting both your router and/or cable modem (both preferabbly)?

Sometimes they'll get stuck until you reboot (usually happens on routers after a lot of downloading/multiple connections (such as torrents)).

It could also be the server on the other end is having issues? Have you tried any other (more local) servers if your game has an option for that?

Client lease time will only prevent your computer from obtaining a different IP address from your router as quickly (holds on to its address for a longer period). It shouldn't affect your latency.

    Edit:
Interesting... sounds kind of like your ISP is resetting the connection for that kind of traffic (similar to the traffic shaping they do with Torrents). Have you contacted your ISP about this?

Also, does your router shape traffic at all? Perhaps your router is set to give higher priority to web traffic as opposed to CS traffic, but this is very unlikely.

Virus/Spyware? Do you check your system for those regularly? (sorry for assuming you're newb or anything... just want to make sure all of our bases are covered).

    Edit 2:
Also, in CS, do you get the connection problem message in the corner, or does it kick you out of the game compeletely?

If the latter, it could be a video card driver issue (or some kind of heat issue).

Also, far fetched, but it could be the RAM. Can you take out the ram you added and see how well it works without the new stuff (could be bad ram)? But again, you'd probably notice it would crash the game entirely, and not just give you the 'connection problem' message in CS.
