As long as it takes you to get frustrated and throw it out the window. Oh and it takes a litte while to get to the ground too...

I have an old ACER that my dad bought in 95, has windows 95 on it, that I keep in my garage and I play CD's on it while I'm in there. It works just fine.

That all depends on how long and how well you take proper care of it. I have worked with computers that are nearly 20 years old and they are still kicking with no signs of breaking any time soon. Of course they are slow as hell lol, but that's not because they're broken.

Typically, with the way most people handle their computers, they will begin breaking down between 5-10 years. For most people this is fine because in the modern world people usually replace their computers every 2 years or less anyway.

Depends how you keep up with the maintenance.
-Windows updates or whatever program you are using
    -Driver updates
    -Virus scans, etc.
    -Program updates
-Vacuum the insides of the computer.
I have an AMD 568 that I built, and I finally retired it, 14 years running. Because it's not on par with the new programs and hardware, and yes that was running Win95.
Right now my Compaq AMD Athlon 2600+, running for 8+ years. Ready to retire once I configured my new one. An AMD Athlon 6400+ X2.
So, it's up to you how you want your computer to serve you.
