if a mobo on newegg says it's pentium d compatible, and it has the correct fsb, will it also be compatible with a pentium dual-core?(Yes, I know they are Different...)

    Thanks for any help.

the Pentium D is the Pentium Dual core, the Differn is the Intel Core 2 Duo. All you have to do is check the socket type.. (I.E the socket LGA775) make sure the sockets are the same and that it's noted the the type of CPU is supported (but the Pentium dual core is the same as the pentium D. Only recently did the eliminate the Pentium name, and switch to the Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad.
good luck vote as best answer ;)

Not always, the Pentium Dual-Core is based off of the Core 2 Duo, not the Pentium 4. The motherboard needs to state that it's compatible with Pentium Dual-Cores.
